International Day of Happiness

The UN International Day of Happiness coming up tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th in conjunction with the Spring Equinox at noon (EST) . This day is a global celebration, making Happiness a global priority. People are now recognizing that 'progress' should be about increasing human happiness and well-being, not just growing the economy. Organized by Action for Happiness, a movement for positive social change. This non-profit movement brings people together from over 140 countries who want to play a part in creating a happier society for everyone. Explore their 10 Keys to Happier Living. Take ACTION Small things can cause big positive changes, so make it happen.

Last year, social media reach of this celebration was estimated to be over 3.5 million people globally. Over 40,000 people visited the campaign website on the day. Lots of great events were held (in 2013) including at the House of Lords in London and at the UN headquarters in New York. Other events included happiness documentary screenings in over 30 countries and Happathon, thousands joining a “virtual tea party”, a Positive Messages flash mob in London, laughter on the streets in Hong Kong and free hugs in Washington DC. Look in your local listings for any events near you.

Where do you find happiness?

The UN's call for action includes simply sharing photos of what makes you happy on Facebook, Instagram, Pintrest and Twitter. Hashtag all your happy moments with #HAPPYDAY and #HAPPINESSDAY

How will you spend your day?

Thank the people you are grateful for.

Find three good things each day.

Look for good in those around you.

Laugh.

Get help, if you're struggling.

Be positive.
